Pierre Trudeaus Just Society Essays - Pierre Trudeau,
Pierre Trudeau's Just Society In 1968, Pierre Elliott Trudeau had recently become Canada's fifteenth PM. I've generally longed for a general public where every individual ought to have the option to satisfy himself to the degree of his capacities as an individual, a society where restraints to correspondence would be destroyed. This implies giving individual opportunities, and uniformity of chance, wellbeing, and training, and I imagine governmental issues as a progression of choices to make this general public. Trudeau, who surrendered as PM in 1984, passed on September 28, 2000, at eighty years old. He accepted that the country must be solid enough to withstand the mind-boggling monetary and social weights from its mammoth neighbor, the United States, and he had confidence in an Equitable Society, one of his preferred expressions that held numerous implications for him. The idea of a Just Society was never simply a helpful expression; it was the motivation for Trudeau's most profound emotions. He accepted that the ever- broadening inlet among rich and poor at home and in immature nations ought to be decreased. He thought it was the administration's duty to give equivalent status, equivalent chance, and reasonable treat-merit for all. As equity serve he presented enactment that expanded reason for separation and premature births and abrogated punishments for gay acts between consenting grown-ups, with the well known comment, The state has no business in the rooms of the country. One of Trudeau's first moves as executive was to make Canada a bilingual nation, with the Official Languages Act, which gave French and English equivalent status by law. Trudeau additionally brought home the Canadian constitution with the Constitution Act of 1982, amending an irregularity from the earlier century that necessary the revising procedure to be affirmed by the British Parliament. He joined a Charter of Rights and Freedoms into the Constitution, which revered French and English instruction rights the nation over; made PetroCanada, Canada's own oil organization; organized the dubious National Energy Program, which expanded government control of the gas and oil industry; named the first lady to the Supreme Court of Canada and the principal female senator general; what's more, presented new business and instructive open doors for the youthful. Not every one of his approaches were generally welcomed, reviews Ivan Head, Trudeau's previous head counsel on international strategy. His National Energy Program in 1980, intended to build Canadian responsibility for oil industry from 15 percent to 50 percent, to present preservation measures, and to overhaul the division of oil incomes between the creating territories and the government made huge debate. The area of Alberta and the United States government both fought back against what they viewed as 'against Alberta' and 'hostile to American' activities. Trudeau was a much needed refresher for what was then an exceptionally sullen society, which has experienced enormous change due to his effect. Trudeaumania was the Nickname given in mid 1968. Trudeaumania proceeded during the resulting government political race and during Mr. Trudeau's early years as Prime Minister of Canada. Numerous youngsters in Canada at this time were affected by the 1960s counterculture and related to Trudeau, a youthful, lively, maverick. They were amazed by Trudeau's appeal and great looks, and an enormous fan base was set up all through the nation. He would regularly be halted in the avenues for his signature or for a brisk photo. Trudeau was likewise respected for his laid-back demeanor what's more, his big name connections; in that word's overarching use at that point, portraying a cutting edge, hip and happening individual, he was depicted as a pleasure seeker. Trudeaumania started to fail after Pierre Trudeau wedded Margaret Sinclair in 1971, yet he is recollected right up 'til the present time as one of Canada's most polarizing legislators and leaders: affectionately reviewed by numerous Central also, Eastern Canadians while simultaneously disliked in the western territories and among preservationist masterminds and Quebec patriots. Official bilingualism is the term utilized in Canada to all in all portray the approaches, established arrangements, and laws which give English and French a favored status over different dialects in Canada's courts, parliament and organization. Notwithstanding the representative assignment of English and French as official dialects, official bilingualism is commonly comprehended to incorporate any law or on the other hand other measure which: . commands that the central government lead its business in both official dialects and give taxpayer supported organizations in the two dialects; . supports or orders lower levels of government (most prominently the regions and regions, yet in addition a few regions) to lead themselves in both authority dialects and to offer types of assistance in both English and French as opposed to in only either; . places commitments on private on-screen characters in

Counselors vs. Counseling Psychologists
Counselors vs. Counseling Psychologists Student Resources Careers Print Counselor and a Counseling Psychologist Differences By Kendra Cherry facebook twitter Kendra Cherry, MS, is an author, educational consultant, and speaker focused on helping students learn about psychology. Learn about our editorial policy Kendra Cherry Updated on February 10, 2020 Tetra Images/Getty Images More in Student Resources Careers APA Style and Writing Study Guides and Tips While counselors and counseling psychologists perform a lot of similar duties, there are actually a number of important differences between the two professions. Both professions are focused on helping people live better lives, but counselors and counseling psychologists have different educational backgrounds and often work in different settings. Key Similarities There are a number of important similarities between counselors and counseling psychologists: Both are mental health practitionersBoth can provide psychotherapyBoth may specialize in a particular area, such as working with children, adults, or couplesBoth help clients improve well-beingBoth work in diverse areas including hospitals, government offices, mental health clinics, academic settings, and private practice Differences So how exactly do counselors and counseling psychologists differ? Some of the major differences are in educational levels, the scope of practice, and work settings. Counselors Usually have a masters degreeOften address emotional and relationship issuesOften work in school or career settingsAre not trained to provide psychological testingTreat clients by providing talk therapy Counseling Psychologists Have a doctorate degreeTend to treat more serious forms of mental illnessOften found in medical and mental health clinicsTrained to provide diagnosis and psychological testing Education and Training Differences One of the major differences can be seen in the educational and training requirements for each profession. Counselor Educational Requirements Counselors generally have at minimum a masters degree in either counseling or psychology. Most masters programs require 60 credit hours of study. Those who become licensed professional counselors are required to pass a national professional exam and complete a specified number of supervised hours in the field. One of the attractions of counseling programs is that they require less time to complete than a doctorate, allowing students to enter the workforce faster. Another reason why such programs appeal to students is that some allow for part-time study, making it possible for students to remain employed in their current jobs while they earn a masters degree. Counseling Psychologist Educational Requirements Counseling psychologists, on the other hand, hold a Ph.D., Psy.D., or Ed.D. degree in counseling psychology. Such programs tend to include a greater focus on research than is typically seen in masters level counseling programs. Such programs usually take five years to complete. The first four years are complete required courses, research, clinical experiences, and a dissertation. The fifth-year is usually spent doing a supervised internship in the field. Accreditation and Licensing In many cases, both counseling psychology and counseling programs are housed within a universitys College of Education (although not always). Counseling programs and counseling psychology programs also receive accreditation from different accrediting bodies. In the United States, counseling programs are accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and counseling psychology programs are accredited through the American Psychological Association (APA). It is important to note that both counselors and psychologists must be licensed to practice within the state where they work. In order to become licensed, counselors and psychologists must meet specific education, training, and testing criteria established by the state. This includes meeting a minimum education level, completing required supervised experience hours, and passing state certification exams. Scope of Practice Another key difference between counselors and counseling psychologists can be seen in the type of duties they usually perform. While counseling psychologists often conduct psychological assessments and administer diagnostic tests to clients, counselors are sometimes limited in terms of the tests they are able to administer. State laws may dictate which type of assessments a counselor can offer and may require that the administration of such tests be supervised by a psychologist. Counseling psychologists may also work with individuals suffering from more serious forms of mental illness than counselors. More general emotional, relationship, social, and academic problems are often referred to counselors because they are sometimes able to offer more cost-effective treatments. However, both types of professionals offer important mental health services designed to help people overcome problems and optimize their well-being. Counselors often choose to focus on a specialty area such as school counseling, career counseling, marriage and family counseling, mental health counseling, and addictions counseling. Similarly, counseling psychologists often elect to specialize in a particular area such as substance abuse, child development, health psychology, community psychology, crisis intervention, or developmental disabilities. A Word From Verywell While counselors and counseling psychologists perform many similar job duties in the field of mental health, it is important to be aware of the differences between the two professions. If you are thinking about entering one of these fields, you will need to determine which one is right for you and adjust your educational plan to meet those expectations. If you are looking for mental health services, you should talk to your doctor about what type of mental health professional might be right for your needs. Seeing a counselor might be a great choice in some situations, while in other cases, such as if you need treatment for a more serious mental health condition, you might need to see a psychologist or psychiatrist. His life was somehow marred with Controversies especially the divorce of his parents and when he dropped out of school at the age of 15, and even during his later years as a filmmaker as many criticized his works terming it too violent and moral suspects (Ben-Youssef 819). His writing style id quite different and he is said to manipulate commodities so as to bring out the plot of his movies, which are action thrillers, animations and comedies. The plot summary of the movie was set in the year 1941 during the World War 2 in Germanys territory in France. Basterds is a group of soldiers led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine, who recruited Jewish Americans to their service to facilitate their plan to assassinate the Germany leader Adolf Hitler and other Nazis (Mingant 712). This was after it was reported that he killed many Jews. They succeeded with their plan after planning with the theater owner who was eager to avenge the death of his family. The Basterds with the help of Germany undercover agent Bridget Von Hammers mark successfully set the premier on fire killing all Germanys that was in it. This paper is going to look into the movie Inglorious Basterds written and directed by American actor Quentin Tarantino, study its cultural effects and developments, its artifact features and how the setting of the artifact. The cultural narrative of the creator of the movie is to display evil and ill intentions and acts that characterize the killing, murder of innocent Jews. And the subsequent revenge by the American Jews whose families had been killed by the Nazi regime under Adolf Hitler (Ben-Youssef 819). The creator of the artifact was revengeful in his extracts and the major basis of the movie is to kill Germanys by the Jews with the help of the French and other Germans who had been affected by the war. The cultural narrative of the consumers of the artifact at the beginning of the movie is comical and fictitious. However, it later changes into revenge, as marked by Brad Pitts remarks at the end of the movieI think this just might be my masterpiece. This gives an impression that the artifact is about revenge of injustices committed. The movie was acted during the dictatorship leadership of Adolf Hitler under the political party called Nazi Party. During this period German was changed to totalitarianism which was a political system where the government had no limits to its authorities and it was involved in regulating all the aspects in the public and private life if it was possible. This was the worst form of the authoritarianism. In this leadership styles, people had no power and rights for their lives. Under the leadership of Hitler using the Nazi party, there was an elimination of all the political oppositions which led to a consolidation of the power which led to the dictatorship of the Hitler. (Tarantino 250). The people in society during that period were experiencing racism. Racism was about the anti-Semitism people from German like the Nordic race was taken by the state during the regime of the Hitler as the purest race and Jews were discriminated against. In such society to be a Muslim or opposing there government was a risk as you could be eliminated by Hitler. The Nordic was considered as the master race which was honored by the dictatorship leadership of the Hitler. The people associated with Jewish race and other people outside the master race were undesirable to the state and they were experiencing killings. Those who opposed the government were dealt with them ruthlessly by the state. The people in the society who were involved in opposing the leadership of the Hitler suffered imprisonment and killings. Christians were subjected to the suppression and education and work for the women were involved in the curtailing. This led to people in the society during the regime of th e Hitler to suffer more as a result of dictatorship. As a result, the society was ready to revenge for the killings where the movie inglorious and bustard was created to advocate for such actions in Germany in the year 1941(Berenbaum 450). The regime of Hitler came to an end after the end of the Second World War when the society was relieved from the dictatorship leadership. The cultural artifact was created during the World War 2, which took place in the year 1941 and at the same time the Nazi leader by the name Adolf Hitler was killing the Jews branding them unwanted people in Europe (Mingant 712). The historical events that took place during that time such as the world war and the holocaust together with other major atrocities in Europe might have inspired the creator of the artifact to bring forth the story. Additionally the creator was inspired to bring forth the picture of revenge that never took place but many would have wished for. The cultural artifact had its greatest impact in Europe, especially in Germany and parts of Russia. These were parts where the Jews had populated the most (Bryant 192). The World War 2 had its impact in Europe as well. The artifact of the inglorious bustard movie is important for the history in the Germany and territories which were ruled by a chancellor and President Hitler in early 1941. The artifact shows the impact of dictatorship leadership in the German and its impact in which it led to the killing of millions of the people who opposed the dictatorship leadership. The killing was a kind of the genocide which has greatly contributed to the history of Germany. The artifact is significant in portraying how those who opposed the government were suppressed through killings and imprisonment (Berenbaum 450). The killings during the holocaust, the dictatorship leadership, and suppressing of the opposition have been a significant source of history in the world. The cultural artifact in this movie has a lasting impact on the locals, nations and at global levels. Its impact is political in nature. It has enabled the leadership of the countries to change from the dictatorship leadership and totalitarianism political systems which has a negative impact on the citizens of a given country (Tarantino 250). Nowadays the leadership in the local, national and global levels. The countries in the whole world are emphasizing on the use of the democratic leadership where the citizens have the freedom to participate in the leadership as opposed to dictatorship leadership which has a more negative impact to society. Roles of Consumers in Demand for Iphone free essay sample
Consumers in the Demand for the iPhone On the 14th of October, hundreds and thousands of people from all around the world queued for hours just to purchase a gadget of the future ââ¬â the iPhone 4S. ââ¬Å"Outside the Apple store on Regent Street in London, a line of shoppers snaked down nearby Hanover Street [whilst] in Covent Garden at least 700 people were queuing (Mathis, 2011). â⬠It makes one wonder how innovative this product really is to draw this much attention. What do consumers see in the iPhone? Is it about product viability, status enhancement or just another Apple product to tick off the list? ââ¬Å"Consumer behaviour refers to the selection, purchase and consumption of goods and services for the satisfaction of their wants (Shah, 2010). â⬠There are six main types of consumers in society, each with different roles. It is vital to examine the various functions of each type of consumer with regard to the iPhone. We will write a custom essay sample on Roles of Consumers in Demand for Iphone or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Several factors influence the type of the consumer and his/her consumption. These range from culture, social class, family, roles and status, age, occupation, economic situation, lifestyle and beliefs. Basically, consumers identify themselves within a particular group and act accordingly towards consumption and demand for innovation whilst considering the product life cycle. In order to determine the effect of the iPhone on consumers, a background of the product must be considered. The iPhone 4S is the most advanced piece of technology Apple has ever invented. It is an upgrade to the iPhone 4 and was released only a month ago. Its new features include Siri, an intelligent personal assistant that helps you with your needs. Moreover, it has a dual-core A5 chip which makes browsing, gaming and everything faster. Add to this an 8MP camera, iOS 5 updated software, iCloud to store content on devices and all the previous functions of the iPhone 4 and you have the smashing new iPhone 4S, ââ¬Å"the most amazing iPhone yet (Apple, 2011). ââ¬Å" It is currently priced from ? 499 and its demand is gargantuan. The iPhone may be distinguished as a luxury good for some or a normal good for another. This all depends on the background of the consumer. Most of the people lining up on the first day of the iPhone 4S release or the early stages of the product life cycle are more likely to be categorised as Marshall consumers or Veblen or Bourdieu consumers. These are two of the six main types of consumers. Marshall consumers are described by Swann (2010) as ââ¬Å"actively seeking out new and different consumption opportunities and actively making the most of each consumption experience (Swann, p 195). â⬠These consumers simply demand the new innovation but do not necessarily need the newly released innovation. On the other hand, the Veblen or Bourdieu consumer is one who ââ¬Å"purchases higher-priced goods whereas similar low-priced substitutes are available caused by the desire for conspicuous consumption (Business, 2011). They are active consumers who yearn for distinction. Marshall consumers are plainly people who are interested about the new product and their benefits. Their passion includes getting a hold of the newest products to appease their demand for innovation and to discover what they have to offer. To them, the iPhone 4S may be nothing but an upgraded version of the iPhone 4 yet just for the sake of change and becau se of the fact that it is the latest gadget, they will purchase it. On the contrary, the Veblen consumer ââ¬Å"can be influenced by the behaviour of at least three groups: a peer group distinction group . and an aspiration group (Swann, p. 192). â⬠These consumers desire distinction and separation from everyone else. The new iPhone is definitely an opportunity to demonstrate distinction. Having a top of the line smart phone newly released by Apple symbolises a massive amount of wealth. Veblen consumers demand the iPhone at its initial stages as a sign of high social class. Similarly, the Bourdieu consumer seeks distinction but with a modest or greater amount of expenditure (Swann, p. 193). For them, the expensive price of an iPhone 4S increases their demand for the product. Basically, both Veblen and Bourdieu consumers demand the new iPhone simply because of the distinction it brings with its ownership whilst the Marshall consumer consumes to explore. A minor type of consumer that may have been present on the release of the iPhone is the Dutiful consumer. These are consumers who simply have to purchase the iPhone because of their duty. An example would be a journalist writing about the new iPhone. He/she would clearly need to have the iPhone before a review could be written. In other cases, it could simply be a consumer who has a collection of Apple products and believes it is their duty to purchase the new iPhone. During the middle stages of the product life cycle of the iPhone, three different types of consumers come in and increase the demand for the innovation. The Douglas consumer, Learning consumer and the Conventional economic consumer all boost the demand for the iPhone in varying levels. Douglas consumers are based on Mary Douglas who wrote that ââ¬Å"the real moment of choosing is choice of comrades and their way of life (Douglas, p. 45). These consumers base their consumption on social interaction and peer group loyalty. Learning consumers conversely are those who recognise the innovation as something worth having. It develops with their knowledge of the uses of the innovation and increases their demand for the product. Finally, the Economic consumer changes only if the environment changes. The most important factor of this type of consumer is the fact that they are interested in innovations that offer them features that reduce their costs (Swann, p. 190). Douglas consumers are influenced by the group of people they associate themselves with. An interesting characteristic about this type of consumer is the initial hesitation to demand innovation. However, as soon as the ââ¬Ëgroup leaderââ¬â¢ adopts the innovation, the demand increases. In terms of the iPhone, a group of people may deem it to be unnecessary, extravagant or luxurious depending on their social standing. Its initial release may not have been something important to the members of this group. Although, once an important member of the group buys an iPhone, members tend to follow the same procedure and purchase iPhones as well. This increases the demand for the iPhone only because it demonstrates peer allegiance. Coincidentally, since Douglas consumers increase the demand for the iPhone, Veblen consumers would demand less of this product. This is due to the fact that the Veblen consumers originally acquire the iPhone to symbolise their high level of social status. Once the consumers below this begin to procure the same product, they would not be differentiated as much as they formerly were. It is vital to appreciate that an increase in demand due to Douglas consumers may mean a decrease in demand by Veblen consumers. The Learning consumers demand the iPhone simply because of the features everyone has been raving about. It could only take them a brief moment to witness the intelligence of Siri to understand the value of an iPhone. Siri is the personal assistant that simply does your work for you. For example, you can say ââ¬Å"Siri, remind me of Dadââ¬â¢s birthday on Tuesdayâ⬠and Siri will automatically create an event reminding you of ââ¬Å"Dadââ¬â¢s birthday. â⬠This feature has never been witnessed before and could be the main reason why Learning consumers would demand this innovation (Apple, 2011). This could be similar to the Economic consumers. Although they do not participate in ââ¬Ëgroupthink,ââ¬â¢ once they recognise how the iPhone can reduce their costs, they will eventually demand it. They see this as an all-in-one gadget as it allows one to call, message, email, surf the net, play music, take photos and watch videos. These features in just one iPhone would reduce their expenditure on other gadgets like the Mp3 players and allow them to use their money on different things. The last stage of the product life cycle is the mass market. At this point, the innovation is in full swing in terms of demand and has been in the market for quite a bit of time. This is where the Galbraith consumer affects the demand of the innovation. In 1958, Galbraith through his book, The Affluent Society, described the consumer as one whose ââ¬Å"wants and tastes were shaped by advertising (Swann, p. 190). â⬠Basically, consumers under this category are easily persuaded by marketing schemes and are pushed to purchase the new innovation. In the case of the iPhone, Apple continuously releases advertisements promoting their product. Apple has released three new iPhone ads that suggest if you dont have an iPhone, there are a lot of things youre missing (Horn, 2011). â⬠They emphasise on the qualities of an iPhone and go for iPhone envy. Galbraith consumers, after witnessing this advertisement would more likely increase the demand of the iPhone. Finally, routine consumers are those who are least motivated by innovation (Swann, p. 1 97). They are not influenced by advertising and stick to the familiar processes of their consumption. Therefore, the iPhone, no matter how appealing it may be to consumers all around the globe, will not be attractive in their perception. In the end the demand for innovation, in this case the iPhone 4S, depends on the consumersââ¬â¢ preferences and the stage of the product cycle. The initial stage would highlight activity of the Marshall, Veblen amp; Bourdieu and Dutiful consumers whilst the middle stage and the mass market would include activity of the Douglas, Economic, Learning, Galbraith and Routine consumers respectively. People are generally different types of consumers at different instances and possess various inclinations from time to time. The exciting thing about this is the idea of innovation as a cycle. All we are sure of is that innovations will continuously develop and hopefully lead us to a better and brighter future. Grave danger essays
Grave danger essays "The gravest danger facing America and the World today is outlaw regimes that seek and possess nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons." This line from Presidents Bush's 2003 State of the Union Address underlines what is in store for our nation. The risk to our country is increasing more and more due to the availability of cheap weapons and military technology. There are a couple of factors that contribute to the rise in our national security risk. The first and most obvious threat comes in the form of terrorism from armed minorities, for example militant Islamic groups. Defending a nation from terrorist attacks is tricky, because of the fluidity of the group. It's not like dealing with a country, these terrorists live within civilization that may not know of their existence. Another security risk are unstable regimes or aggressive states that are rising to power. These countries are potentially dangerous because of irrational rulers, or strong senses of nationalism. These nation states can hurt us in a couple of ways. One way, is by supporting terrorists and other militant groups with guns and money. Another way a country could be a danger to the US is through a cold war style face off Whatever the case, these problems won't go away and must be dealt with. Terrorism, by definition is "a form of political violence conducted by individuals, groups, or clandestine government agents that attempts to manipulate politics by attacking noncombatants and nonmilitary targets in order to create a climate of fear." (Rourke 597) Prior to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Americans thought terrorism was largely a problem for just the Middle East. A 1999 survey found that only twelve percent of Americans surveyed even mentioned terrorism. (Rourke 348) The train bombings in Madrid last month is a great example of how effective terrorism can be. The result of the bombing was the president losing an election that he had tied up before ...

Definitions and Glosses
Definitions and Glosses Definitions and Glosses Definitions and Glosses By Mark Nichol A definition is a phrase or sentence (or more) that explains the meaning of a term, and a gloss is a brief definition offered parenthetically after the term. This post includes examples of sentences in which definitions and glosses are erroneously presented. Discussion after each sentence explains the error, and a revision demonstrates the correct treatment. 1. The term uncertainty is defined as not knowing how or if potential events may manifest themselves in the context of achieving future objectives and business strategies. Enclose explicit definitions (those preceded by means, ââ¬Å"is defined as,â⬠and the like) in quotation marks to signal that the definition is the exact wording from another source: ââ¬Å"The term uncertainty is defined as ââ¬Ënot knowing how or if potential events may manifest themselves in the context of achieving future objectives and business strategies.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ 2. The organization defines ââ¬Å"relevant informationâ⬠as information that facilitates informed decision-making. This sentence is constructed differently from the previous example, but the rule is the same: ââ¬Å"The organization defines ââ¬Ërelevant informationââ¬â¢ as ââ¬Ëinformation that facilitates informed decision-making.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (In this case, because the term consists of more than one word, it is enclosed in quotation marks as well, rather than italicized.) However, if a definition follows is or another form of ââ¬Å"to be,â⬠do not set it off in quotation marks: ââ¬Å"Relevant information is information that facilitates informed decision-making.â⬠Note, too, that in this sentence, ââ¬Å"relevant informationâ⬠is treated as the thing itself, not the term for the thing, so the phrase is not set off with quotation marks. However, in some sentence constructions, the word or phrase may be emphasized because it is a reference to the term itself, and not the concept, while the definition is not treated as a quotation; see, for example, ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËRelevant informationââ¬â¢ refers to information that facilitates informed decision-making.â⬠3. Administrative adjudication is one of several methods the agency may use to enforce compliance with federal consumer financial laws; it refers to the process by which an administrative agency engages in an adversarial proceeding with a supervised party. ââ¬Å"Administrative adjudicationâ⬠is referred to here as a concept, but ââ¬Å"it refers toâ⬠implies that the reference is to the phrase for the concept, like relevant information in the parenthetical example in the discussion above. (Also, compare ââ¬Å"A pencil is a writing instrumentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Pencil denotes a writing instrument.â⬠) It is equivalent to the concept, not the term for it, so the phrase preceding the definition must be revised to reflect this: ââ¬Å"Administrative adjudication is one of several methods the agency may use to enforce compliance with federal consumer financial laws; the term refers to the process by which an administrative agency engages in an adversarial proceeding with a supervised party.â⬠4. The Gospel of Matthew, the only one of the four canonical gospels to mention the Wise Men, or Magi, makes no mention of the number who came to worship the baby Jesus. Here, two designations for the same thing, the group of men said to have visited Jesus shortly after his birth, are described, but it makes no sense to first provide the more transparent of the two terms, followed by the more esoteric one. The designation that is more well known should be offered as a subsequent gloss, or brief definition, of the more obscure term: ââ¬Å"The Gospel of Matthew, the only one of the four canonical gospels to mention the Magi, or Wise Men, makes no mention of the number who came to worship the baby Jesus.â⬠5. Alice in Wonderland syndrome, or micropsia, is a neurological disease that affects the visual cortex and makes you see things much, much smaller than they really are. Again, why include a more technical term in addition to a vernacular alternative unless it is introduced first, followed by the more familiar or accessible name as a gloss? Revise as shown here: ââ¬Å"Micropsia, or Alice in Wonderland syndrome, is a neurological disease that affects the visual cortex and makes you see things much, much smaller than they really are.â⬠Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? The upcoming trends like the B2B integration, e-business, electronic procuring, and e-logistics are initiated in collaboration with trading partners, to increase efficiencies and eradicate the desecrate, out of supply chains. ââ¬Å"The supply chain is corporate Americaââ¬â¢s last frontier. Conquering it is the key to reducing costs and maximizing profits. Damon Schechter and Gordon Sander have done a remarkable job in demonstrating the importance of supply chain managementââ¬âto todayââ¬â¢s businessâ⬠(Delivering the Goods 2000). Frankenstein Analyze a character Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Frankenstein Analyze a character - Essay Example Frankenstein is usually considered as rebellious in its religious stand. The generally held notion has been that the novel was intended as a satire of Genesis, scoffing at the usual faith in a caring Creator (Walling as cited by Ryan 1988). Leslie Tannenbaum (1977) first mooted a different idea, saying that the novel's mention of Paradise Lost was intended to highlight sarcastically Victor Frankenstein's "failures" as a maker, compared to Milton's more affectionate and dependable Holiness. Tannenbaum's explanation was part of the re-reading of the novel during the 1970s, mainly by feminist and psychoanalysts, who discovered in it a restrained but firm protest against some values and thoughts of the author's father and those of her husband, the Romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. This new reading sees Victor Frankenstein as a blend of her father, her husband and the monster -- the novel's most sensitive character -- as a symbol of the author herself, the sufferer and the artifact of her father's liberal attitude. The novel thus wonders why, while a scientist like Frankenstein (or men like P.B Shelley or Godwin, the author's father), is otherwise a kind person while at the same time who ruins his close ones with his research on human life (Ryan 1988). As religion and idealism tender completely opposing views of human character and fate, it remains ambiguous which aspect the novel's lampooning is mainly aimed at. The religious ambiguity is certainly just one feature of a larger model of hesitation that has been noticed in the novel. By creating a fiend, the advocate of religious orderliness that is diametrically opposite to her father's outlook, she establishes a peculiar duality through which she doubts idealistic orderliness without clearly asserting the Christian other. The point here is that the incompetent, perplexed Christian belief of the Monster -- the main sufferer and opponent of generous philosophy in Frankenstein -- is employed by Mary Shelley to doubt both Christianity and the idealistic philosophy (Ryan 1988). Although Victor Frankenstein's own religious views are never clearly articulated, it is evident that he is not a Christian. M. Krempe's (professor of philosophy whom the narrator/protagonist Victor Frankenstein introduces in chapter 3 as " a little squat man, with a gruff voice and a repulsive countenance; the teacher, therefore, did not prepossess me in favour of his pursuits") teasing comment that Victor "believed in Cornelius Agrippa as firmly as in the gospel". This raises doubts whether Victor believes in the gospel in any way. Even though he mentions Elizabeth (an orphan young girl who married Victor and was killed during their honeymoon) and himself as children of god, he churns out the Christian tradition to find expression of cruelty with which he shouts at the monster. It is evident that Victor is not a believer even in any conventional way. By contrast, his creature from the beginning shows a strong philosophical inquisitiveness. He forces himself to a painstaking inquest: "Who was I What was I Whence did I come What was my destination These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them "(Chapter 15). The answer comes to him all of a sudden when he trips, inadvertently, on a text of Paradise Lost. He narrates the experience: "One night I found on the ground a leathern portmanteau containing several articles of dress

Pull and Push Factors for American Immigrants :: essays research papers
America in the early 1900?s was a giant melting pot of cultures. More than 1 million people per year relocated to ?The Promised Land?, for a chance to start over, escape poverty, war and many other push factors. But soon upon arriving, they realized that America was not the same land they expected. They faced many hardships and living conditions were bad. Often, immigrants left their native countries because of push factors such as war, famine, hard times & epidemics and the government (Docs.1 and 2). These immigrants listened and heard about stories of America. Propaganda led some people to believe that the streets were paved with gold and anyone who went to America can become rich. Millions of immigrants, mostly from European countries, packed their bags and traveled to this unknown place in search of jobs, a better education, and a new life. (Doc. 3) With increased immigration, open hostility towards these foreigners was shown more often. (Doc.4) Approximately 70% of the workforce was occupied by immigrants around this decade. This led to protests and a temporary immigrant quota. Nativism is an example of one of the many hardships immigrants had to overcome. Because America was a developing industrial nation around the early 1900s, people from everywhere flocked to cities. As these cities became urbanized, there wasn?t enough living area to accommodate the millions of people. Several families lived together in tiny tenements that were often dangerous and lacked sunlight and air (Doc 5). Living conditions were bad, diseases spread like wildfire and the crime rate was high. Language was a major barrier for these foreigners. Many were not given equal opportunities because they were immigrants and had accents. Learning was expensive for these immigrants who received verly little pay. They worked with dangerous conditions and for long hours (Doc. 6) Children worked as well, from selling newspapers to working in factories.

Visual storytelling in films
Literature Review Introduction In this foreword subdivision, more than a few factors that shape the art of associating visuals and narratives in movies will be listed down. These factors will be the root of the research in order to execute the methodological analysis analysis of the thesis, in add-on to replying the research inquiries every bit good as analysing the obtained consequences from the research. Ocular Storytelling in Films: What is it? The exact description of ocular storytelling is difficult to trap down compactly as there are assorted schools of idea sing the affair. All the same, The International Film School of Paris ( EICAR ) had defined it honestly as ââ¬Å"Communicating visually in signifiers that can be read or looked upon. In film a narrative is most ocular when thoughts and emotions are expressed through public presentation and aesthetics as opposed to dialogue.â⬠Based on that word picture it is non difficult to understand why Monaco ( 2000 ) claims that a movie is a linguistic communication for it ââ¬Ëcommunicatesââ¬â¢ to an audience. It is non a linguistic communication in the sense of English, French or Mathematic is, for there is no such thing as grammar or vocabulary that needed acquisition. Campsall ( 2002 ) is in understanding as he elaborated that the linguistic communication of movie expresses the manner a movie would ââ¬Ëspeakââ¬â¢ to its audiences and witnesss which is why managers, manufacturers and editors work to bring forth intending from the traveling still images of movie, picture and telecasting. The viewing audiences in the terminal are responsible in decrypting these significances in a non dissimilar manner to construing spoken and written linguistic communication. When watching a movie ; everyone from assorted age groups is able to grok the visuals they see. Monaco ( 2000 ) states farther that there are two decisions, that everyone can comprehend and place a ocular image which leads to the above statement. Another is that even the simplest ocular images are interpreted otherwise in by people with different backgrounds. This is because, as human existences, we donââ¬â¢t merely read what we see but we bring to our reading of traveling images, a sco pe of preexistent outlooks, information and common experiences that form the significance we take from what we see ( Campsall, 2002 ) . An indispensable aspect of movie linguistic communication is its absorbing disposition and its manifestation of pragmatism besides known as verisimilitude. As Campsall ( 2002 ) wrote, it is non merely as if the audiences are watching a bona fide ââ¬Ëwindow on the worldââ¬â¢ , itââ¬â¢s a window that they would want to stay on observation. Through these agencies, movies are non merely capable of being entertaining, edifying and informing to its viewing audiences, but besides enabling them to comprehend the universe in a peculiar agency. Furthermore this makes the movie linguistic communication really much recognized as semiotic what with the use of marks, codifications and conventions. Those who could understand the linguistic communication are able to see the methods or conventions used for ocular storytelling. Throughout this research, there were many books and articles that voiced out their sentiments on methods of reading a movie ; each movie slangs have their specific symbolism and usage depending on what the way of the narrative. When one is able to decently read a movie by agencies of placing and understanding the conventions, one would be capable of ocular storytelling ( Sijll, 2005 ) . Below is the list of the accrued conventions used in todayââ¬â¢s ocular storytelling. Ocular Storytelling: Space Space in movie refers to the spacial kineticss built-in in the frame of a movie. One would state that a movie frame is kindred to a inactive snapshot therefore portion of a moving image. Like a picture, the inactive image of the frame presents built-in storytelling chances. Because a film is a gesture image, the composing of the frame continuously changes. This added features affords two of import narrative elements ââ¬â that of screen way and comparing. Screen way can propose hostility, individuality, and struggle, for illustration. A traveling frame might be used to stand for alteration, similarity or itââ¬â¢s face-to-face, stasis. Ocular Storytelling: Framing a Composition The oculus responds otherwise to assorted ocular stimulations. Among the most of import elements that have been discerned are: brightness, coloring material, size, form, gesture, velocity, and way. Through careful uses these elements can be used to steer the audienceââ¬â¢s attending and emotional response. As ever, content, apposition with surrounding frames, and the intersection of other elements will lend to the viewerââ¬â¢s response. Ocular Storytelling: Shape within the Frame Depending on usage and context, forms can be used to propose thoughts and emotions. Traditionally there are three cardinal forms: the circle, the square and the trigon. Out of these three, many signifiers can be derived out of them: the half circle, the rectangle, and many others. For each forms there are certain traditional association made of them. Block ( 2008 ) listed in ââ¬Å"The Visual Storyâ⬠some of the form significances. Rounded Shapes are associated with indirectness, inactive, romantic, refering to nature, soft organic, childlike, safe and flexible. Squares nevertheless are direct, industrial, ordered, additive, unnatural, grownup, and rigidity. Triangles are for aggressiveness and kineticss. Block cautiousnesss that these are non regulations for new associations can ever be made depending on the demand of the narrative. Shape is simply one component in the frame. Ocular Storytelling: Editing Editing is a manner of compressing clip and infinite or bring forthing the result of a dream sequence or flashback. The consequences of redacting are more frequently than non seamless and natural that the audiences tend non to be cognizant of it. In theory, redacting is the bottleneck of scenes through assembly of shootings. Different picks of redacting could steer the audienceââ¬â¢s emotional response. Pudovkin ( 1926 ) had set down five redacting techniques that remain the foundation of the modern twenty-four hours film editing: contrast, correspondence, symbolism, simultaneousness, Leit-Motif. Ocular Storytelling: Time A movie is a dramatic representation of life. It is made up of scenes ordered to stand for the transition of movie clip through the assembly of emended shootings. Film clip is seldom paced the same as existent life. With the exclusion of mise-en-scene, most emended sequences pull strings existent clip. From one cut to another, an chance of changing experiences of existent clip can be made. The ground film makers alter clip is because they are making a dramatic narrative. Merely those minutes that contribute to its promotion are included, all else is left out. Ocular Storytelling: Sound and Music Outside of the musical mark, films rely on three sorts of sound to state their narratives: Dialogues, voiceover and sound effects. While voiceover and duologue are good understood to be writerââ¬â¢s tools, few film writers approach sound effects with the same certainty. Yet sound effects are every bit much the horizon of the author as are ocular metaphor, sound effects can besides propose an drawn-out aural metaphor. They can add beds of intending to a movie that are difficult to accomplish in other ways. Sound effects can be obvious or elusive. They can deliberately pull attending, or manipulate with stealing. They can expose, camouflage, suggest set up or uncover. They can besides be associated to specific events or characters. Lyrics of music can move as the voice of a character. They can uncover the inner ideas in a manner that can be more interesting than a simple duologue scene. Lyrics can besides move as the voice of the storyteller. They add another bringing system with which to parcel out character and thematic information. In other times, music is symbolically used as a narrative component. Ocular Storytelling: Passages The motion between the terminal of one scene and the beginning of another is called a passage. Each passage presents an chance to convey narrative information by virtuousness of how the scenes are cut together. The scene can merely be cut with no knowing mention or constructed to add a narrative component. A duplicate passage is one manner to work this chance and can be achieved in an infinite figure of ways. Ocular Storytelling: Lenss, Positions and Gestures of the Camera The camera presents a scene ââ¬â topics, actions, scenes ââ¬â in a series of shootings that render images on a screen. Alternatively of merely puting the camera where an audience can watch the action, the camera is able to supply the audience with prosecuting ocular experiences. Assortment is of import for if a scene is merely rendered by a continue series of broad shootings, the oculus will shortly tyres of repeats. A good shooting will normally incorporate a assortment of camera framings, and angles. For illustration by working the deepness of field of the lenses, each character on scene can populate their ain horizontal program. In this manner characters can be staged in-depth. This allows the audience to see each character responding to one event at the same time and in existent clip. Different places besides play a portion. The closer the camera is to a character, the more likely audiences will sympathize with the character. Ocular Storytelling: Lighting and Colour Film interprets topics and scenes as images of visible radiation and shadiness. Lighting is one of the few facets in movie that has the ability to make a certain world to the audience. There are a figure of different manners of lighting, each designated as a manner geared to the subject and temper, every bit good as its genre. Lights can besides be used to weaken capable affair. Color on the other manus tends to be a subconscious component in movie. Itââ¬â¢s strongly emotional in its entreaty, expressive atmospheric. In short, color aid to propose tempers. Ocular Storytelling: Props, Wardrobes, and Locations Props provide a dramatic manner to show a characters interior universe. Props speak visually, are nomadic, and can be returned to throughout the film. By intentionally choosing and working props, a filmââ¬â¢s scene can be given an added bed of significance. Wardrobes are the same as props ; the determination to include wardrobe elements depends on whether it adds sufficient dramatic value be it to a character, to demo character transmutation or the transition of clip. Another manner to project the interior ideas of character is to pull strings the locations. It besides offers a immense storytelling potency, for a certain location can rise play, suggest analogues and contrast besides specifying a character. All three can besides function the intent of conveying a sense of metaphor to the movie. MentionsArnheim, R. 1969. Film as art. Berkeley: University of California Press.Bellantoni, P. 2005. Why The Pyramids Were Built By Pure Man Power With...
As we may know, there is much speculation as to how and why the pyramids were built. There is very little known about these giant megaliths due to inconsistencies in the documentation, or a lack of documentation altogether. It has been understood for many years that the pyramids were built as tombs for great pharaohs, but how were such large limestone structures built by pure man-power with pinpoint accuracy? Is there a greater meaning behind the locations of these massive formations? We have been taught from a young age that the pyramids were built as tombs for great pharaohs. The sun god Ra is believed to be represented in the pyramid shape, due to the fact that all pharaohs were descendants of the gods. Ra, the Egyptian sun god, was considered the father of all pharaohs and is said to have created himself from a ââ¬Å"pyramid-shaped mound of earth before creating all other godsâ⬠(Redford). The pyramid shape represents the sun rays for Ra. According to professor Donald Redford, the Egyptians chose the pyramid shape for their pharaohââ¬â¢s tombs because of their solar region. The Egyptians believed that the shape symbolized the sunââ¬â¢s rays and honored the sun god. Another theory on the shape of the pyramids is that the top of the pyramid pointed to the heavens, the ultimate destination of the deceased pharaoh The Egyptians had many complex ideals about death and the after-life. Organizational Controls Free Essays
The Lincoln Company follows a decentralized approach to management. The decentralized approach is when employees participate in setting goals, determining standards of performance, governing quality, and designing control systems. The decision making is not confined to top executives but throughout the organization. We will write a custom essay sample on Organizational Controls or any similar topic only for you Order Now The lowest level managers and employees are empowered to make decisions. The employees have added responsibility and they are involved in decision making which results in increased job satisfaction. The responsibility and the authority that goes with it make the job more interesting and provide greater incentive for people to put out their best efforts. The employees of Lincoln Electric Company tasks are precisely defined, and individual employees must exceed strict performance goals to achieve top pay. The Lincoln employeeââ¬â¢s organization culture is based on trust, shared control, and an egalitarian spirit. The Lincoln Company has an open door policy. The company has cross functional teams and they are empowered to make decisions, take responsibility for product planning, developing, and marketing. The company openly shares information with the workers throughout the organization about the companyââ¬â¢s operations and finances. The Lincoln system was so successful in the United States mainly because of a diverse control approach. Within this company the organizational culture is based on openness, trust, and shared control. As opposed to the hierarchical approach which involves monitoring and influencing employee behavior through extensive use of rules, policies, and written documentation, and the employees communicate with their immediate superior and with their immediate subordinates. The Lincoln Company use of this system gained trust with the workers. The employees can purchase stock, and they owned more than 60% of the stock. The incentive and control system was powerful with incentives that the company offered to employees. This included a no lay off policy, the employees are eligible for annual bonuses, the production workers are paid on a piece rate basis, plus merit pay based on performance. The company had an open door policy and the workers can openly disagree with the manager about pay and other issues. The problem with transporting Lincolnââ¬â¢s control systems to other national cultures because managers in some other countries have more trouble running an open book company because of prevailing attitudes and standards encourage confidentiality and even secrecy concerning financial results. The executives when deciding to expand to different countries may have just concentrated on technology, products, marketing, and control systems, but failed to recognize that the culture of countries may have widely different beliefs, values, and practices. These differences can create stress and anxiety for employees, and these negative emotions affect future performance. Cultural differences should be evaluated during the acquisition process, and Organization Development can be used to smooth the integration of this company to another country. Another helpful tool to make future international manufacturing plants more successful that is being used more often is total quality management. It is a way to implement the decentralized approach to another county. Total quality management uses quality circles and benchmarking as ways to introduce this approach to employees. The organization development will help the company with a culture change which is a major shift in the norms, values, attitudes, and mind set of an organization. It focuses on the human and social aspects of the organization and works to change attitudes and relationships among employees and helps strengthen the organizationââ¬â¢s capacity for adaption and renewal. Lincoln Company should not borrow money and pay bonuses to the United States Workers. I think employees would rather have a job, than the company going bankrupt. Work Controlling Organization and Operationsââ¬Myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss About The Work Controlling Organization And Operations? Answer: Introducation Contemporary management involves planning, organizing, leading and controlling organization operations to achieve team objectives. Personnel supervision enables a firm to achieve success. Therefore, managers at every level of the management have a responsibility of utilizing resources in an efficient manner (Drafke and Murtaugh 2009). However, challenge arising in the process of the directorate include; contentious issues, innovation, and creativity managing diverse workforce and reputation of the organization. Transformational leadership theory The theory states that a leader works with subordinates staff to identify and create change through executing and inspiring the members of the team (Northouse 2012). Transformational leadership theory enhances morale; motivation and performance of the team. Four component of the transformational theory Consideration of individual: the leader attends to each according to the degree of need and concern; the head acts as a guide because they care and stimulate their followers. Stimulation of intellectual: it refers the way a leader takes risk and challenges assumptions. Motivation: inspiration and motivation relate to the way a leader brings together the vision that is inspiring and appealing to the team members. Influencing: a leader should provide a role that depicts moral and ethical behaviors, trust and respect. The transformational theory does not depend on the bureaucracy but presence of the leader. Thus, the model motivates the junior members (Nohria and Khurana 2013). For instance, where a manager raises an issue at hand and inspires and motivates the team members to succeed. Leadership theory of contingency The theory suggests that a leadership skill of a leader varies according to the situations. Hence, the leaders may not automatically be a leader in other conditions. Thus, according to the contingency theory, no single psychological trait links directly to effective leadership (Hill, Jones and Schilling 2014). The theory states that the effective leaders are those with personal attributes relating to the situation they find. The best leaders know how to adapt to different styles of leadership when situation are different. Effective leadership depends on the situation and interaction between behaviors of the leaders. Even though the contingency remains popular, there is criticism regarding the theory. Firstly, the theory does not account how the leadership style change. Secondly, there is no explanation on how managers can modify the style depending on the situation. Thirdly, the theory does not explain the processes behind varying of leadership styles like a position of the leaders or organization. Organization structure Organizational structures explain the directions of activities such as coordination and supervision and task allocation to achieve organizational objectives. For the organization to have a competitive advantage, it should be flexible, efficient and innovative. Functional structure The functional structure comprises a grouping of the each section of the organization according to the purpose. Therefore, the functional structure works effectively in a small company because each part relies on the knowledge and talent of its employee. There is set back in the functional structure because of the restriction in the communication and coordination. Advantages Functional enables specialization of its members which cause a high level of production at a minimal cost. There is scope for training which helps in bringing the flexibility in the organization. Functional allow expansion of the enterprise without loss of efficiency. Additionally, functional structure comprise division of work and high expertise knowledge Disadvantages Lack of co-ordination due to the absence of the unit of command occurs in the functional structure. Structure brings difficulties in the fixing of responsibility since there is no unit of power. Indiscipline arises in employee due to many managers which lower the employees morale. The structure is uneconomical because it increases overhead expenses. The absence of the initiative; employee always gets technical knowledge which makes workers unable to solve a complicated situation. Divisional structure Big companies operate on the divisional structure because they cover a broad geographical location (Mullins and Christy 2013). The large corporations can have smaller organization separate so that they cover a wide market share and variety of the products. The importance of the structure is that needs of the customers are met in a different location and conveniently. However, the communication is the problem because of the employee working on the different locality. Advantages The measurement of performance of each division is easy because of a broad delegation of authority. The sales and profits of an individual sector are accountable to a particular manager who will increase the employee morale, and division manager performs well. The divisional structure enables specialization in a given market segment. Coordination of the units activities is more efficient and effective in responding to the changes and adapting to the local market. There are unhealthy competencies due to the distribution of expertise and technical competence among the divisions. Structure increases the operational cost due to employing of qualified managers and functional specialist in each department. Duplication of the efforts and resources: emphasis on the divisional rather than organizational objective. Matrix organization structure The structure is the hybrid of the functional and divisional structure. Large multinational companies use model structure. However, there will be dual management which creates the struggle in power in most businesses (Takahara and Mesarovic 2012. The struggles will arise due to the division and functional managers working on the same level of the management. Exchange of the information is efficient since the department communicates and works in close collaboration with each other. There are quick decision making and high production due to an active channel of the communication. The structure of the matrix inspires the freestyle of leadership which incorporates the teams input before the decision of managers. The team decision increase the employees Morales and motivation Disadvantages Some employees get confusion regarding their managers which further cause internal conflict. There is division among the managers and staff due to communication problem and dual authority. The company can experience high employee turnover due to the employee dissatisfaction and low morale. There is an increase in the overhead cost as result of the double management. Finally, competition for the employee within the organization can cause hostility in the company which hinders efficient production. Competitive Advantage Strategies of Easy Jet Easy Jetââ¬â¢s competitive advantage is the strategic advantage that one it had and stil l has over its competitors, that enables it to generate greater sales and retain more customers than its rivals. This airline factored mainly on costs, services and brand awareness, to gain a competitive advantage. Competing on costs Easy jet has a culture of minimizing costs as it offers low fares to its passengers. This culture began at its inception when Stelios initiated its operation with a low capital of five million pounds; with which he leased two aircrafts, a staff comprising of teenagers, and a low labor-low fees airport. This culture still continues as the airline seeks to minimize costs wherever possible, for example; they save fourteen pounds per passenger by not offering meal services, they save ten pounds per passenger by flying into Londonââ¬â¢s Luton airport instead of the international Gatwick airport, and they also save cost by not offering business class seating. Apart from minimizing costs, Easy Jet also seeks out other sources of revenue like the internet sa les, which accounts for nearly fifteen percent of their annual revenues. They encourage internet sales through offering discounted fares to customers who purchase their tickets over the internet. The internet sales also help them reduce cost that they might incur in hiring additional reserve agents. This also helps them avoid unnecessary cost like computer reservation system, which would probably add twenty five percent to their overall operating costs.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics?
